British artist Faye Willis, was born and raised in London until she moved with her family to Dorset, in search of green fields and fresh air. While most of Faye's working life was spent longing for a career as an art teacher, it wasn't until 2009 that she began realising that creative dream, and accepted a place at The Arts University Bournemouth. After completing her Art and Design Foundation Diploma at AUB, and winning the 'Best in Show' award for her final submission, Faye embarked on a Fine Art degree; where her practice has developed through drawing and sculpture.
Her work is about the process of creating, quite often finding that her sketchbooks themselves become part of the resulting work. She works with materials in a particular way in order to raise questions about the relationship we have with the materials and space around us. Community based pieces, such as involving the public in creating a giant hop-scotch course in a local woodland walk, and casting 2ft square solid chalk pavement slabs, are examples of her investigation into what is still tangible and tactile in the age of the interface.
Having worked in many jobs ranging from retail management, to mechanical engineering, Faye has developed a practical thought process and skill base that she relies on heavily, not only in her own work, but also in her teaching and technician support roles. These appointments are currently held at Saturday Arts School for Young Artists; based at AUB, and St. Michael's Middle School in Wimborne, Dorset.
