Faye’s work investigates the modern day filters that affect our perceptions of our social and cultural environment. Through the medium of drawing and sculpture, Faye describes the relationships between people and material, and how these two entities 'sit' with each other within the context of the digital age. " I find it really interesting to consider how, as digital natives, we negotiate and value the different levels of materiality in the spaces that surround us, and how we view and explore the world. Are online interactions and experiences more or less valuable than those in the physical realm? Is one more ‘real’ than the other? What about local communities, do they benefit from the technological age? Do you? What have we gained? What have we lost?" Where the choice of materials and processes may differ, Faye’s methodology of Drawing in our current cultural climate, and its significance, remains constant. Giving a renewed sense of value to the tangible and the tactile, the subjective relationship between material, people and place is brought back into focus. |
